Day #5 continued October 28th: Wave #1 Team arrives

The rest of the team for the adult cardiac week arrived today and is helping to put the finishing touches on everything.  From left to right:  Michael, Dr. Jenny, Kari, Rebekah, Amy Sarah, Anna and Dr. Mary in the ICU.

David, 1/2 of our biomed team who helps keep our equipment functioning.

Kari and Anna are returning to Tenwek for the 2nd year in a row and are SUPER excited to be back.

Every night our guesthouse kitchen is converted into a cath conference to review the patients that the cardiology team has seen so the group can decide which patients will be selected for surgery.   There are many many more patients who need a surgical repair than we could possibly do while we are here.  It is important that we use the resources we have to help as many patients as possible, but the unfortunate reality is that many patients will need to be turned down.  Dr. White of Tenwek Hospital (center with white shirt) is speaking with Dr. Mitchell (anesthesia) and Dr. Johannsen (adult cardiology to the right of Dr. White) is reviewing the patient films from the day.  Dr. Galat (adult cardiac surgeon) is in the upper right corner of the photo talking with Dr. Odera (Tenwek senior resident).

Dr.'s Jenny, Luke, John and David listening to Dr. Ron's review of the echocardiography for that day.
