Tenwek Day #2 (1200 noon): "Kenyan Calm"

One of the many reasons I love to come to Kenya is the people and the atmosphere is so relaxed compared to all the "craziness" that we're exposed to every day in our world back home.  One of the Kenyan traditions that we all look forward to each day is our chai tea breaks.  Each day there is a chai tea break mid-morning and mid-afternoon.  Everyone knows when to expect it and we know the time has arrived when we see the large pots of chai being carried into the OR and the ICU's.

See how calm Monty (our biomedical technician from World Medical Missions) is as he pours his morning cup of chai?

Steven (one of our Kenyan nurses) is delivering the morning chai to the cardiac ICU.  Steven is obviously very calm as he anticipates his morning cup of chai

Wait a minute, how did this get in here??? Oh yeah, now it's coming back to me.  This photo was taken one morning last year in the ICU as the chai was being delivered.  Unfortunately, this is how Dr. Mike tends to act when he isn't the first one in line for his morning cup of chai.

Dr. Mike will be arriving next week to work during our pediatric week, and we all hope that he will be better behaved this year!  We love you Dr. Mike.

One more thought....

I think we need to try chai tea breaks here at home for the "calm" affect. Bring some of that chai tea home with you.
