Tenwek Day #3 (9:40 am) "May Your Angels Direct Us & Guide Us..."

Good morning everyone.  It's just before 10 am Kenyan time and we are just starting our first open heart procedure for the day.  For those faithful followers out there (Luke's family, you're blowing me away with your posts - thanks so much) you may remember a post from my first year at Tenwek, I believe it was labeled "A PROFESSIONAL FIRST" when I became aware for the first time that surgeries at Tenwek are not started until the entire surgical team bows and prays for the patient.  The mission statement of Tenwek Hospital is "We Treat, Jesus Heals", and the medical staff exercise that mission statement in their daily lives here at Tenwek Hospital.

I've always wanted to video the pre-op prayer for the patient to share on the blog and I've never quite been in the right place at the right time with my camera ready to catch the prayer.... until today.  The attached video was taken less than 30 minutes ago and I'm pretty excited to try and blog real-time today with my laptop and camera set up in the cardiac OR.  We'll see how it goes.

I haven't been able to review the video so I hope you can all hear Dr. Whites prayer for our patient Caroline.  Please keep Caroline and our team in your prayers as we continue in surgery with her multiple valve replacement and repair over the next few hours.

Tom, if I'm not mistaken you were the perfusionist in the OR during my son's, Witt Deane, heart transplant last September. Your efforts have given my son hope. Hope that he wouldn't have had otherwise. It is so good to hear of the work you are doing in Tenwek bringing hope to their people. You and your team will be in our prayers in the days to come. Prayers for stories of miraculous healing and bringing people to our savior.

God Bless You,

Norm Deane

I had lunch with Luke's wife Jenny and his daughter Aubree today and we talked a lot about Luke and how loved and missed he is. You all are working at such a fast pace. I pray you get some rest and feel at peace. I am sorry about the loss of Roger and hope the rest of your two weeks go as smoothly as possible.
