Trailer From Tenwek Cardiac Week 2009

Video courtesy of Dr. Don Moore
There is nothing that will get you more excited for a follow-up trip to Tenwek Hospital than a trailer from Dr. Don Moore (Vanderbilt Pediatric cardiologist) with highlights from the 2009 cardiac week set to some pretty amazing music.

Some of the same medical staff in this trailer are returning to Tenwek again with me in a few short days.  All the photos in this trailer are taken in and around Tenwek Hospital.  The American medical staff donating their time and talents for this phenomenal cause bring much of the high tech equipment with us to establish and set up the post-op ICU that you see in this video.

The patients are priceless, the Tenwek medical staff are so loving and welcoming and our hearts pour out to all of them during our time with them in their home surroundings.  We are so grateful for the incredible opportunity that we have by being able to work alongside each of them.

While we do a lot of teaching during our visits to Tenwek Hospital each year, I always leave Tenwek feeling that our team has benefitted the most by being exposed to the Kenyan medical staff.  They are able to do so much with so little and they do it so well all for the honor and glory of our Lord.

There are points in every day that I have spent at Tenwek that just blow me away, leave me speechless, bring me to tears, or make me simultaneously thankful for what we have but sad (or maybe disappointed?) that we don't always appreciate everything that is so easily taken for granted, or yearning for the things that the Kenyans have or are able to appreciate that just aren't possible in our modern culture.  One thing is for sure, you cannot visit Tenwek without being affected by everyone you meet and everything you experience.
Sit back and enjoy Don's recap of this fantastic opportunity we all share by helping these incredible people on the other side of the world with the God-given gifts we all have.

Please prayerfully consider a contribution to World Gospel Missions Tenwek Compassionate Surgery Fund mentioned in the sidebar of my blog.  Even if you cannot be present during our upcoming 2 weeks of cardiac surgery you can be part of the great things God is doing at Tenwek Hospital.  I challenge you "not" to be moved into action after viewing Don's video.

Peace and Grace!

Thank you so much Tom for your wonderful blog! I love it! My husband Luke is with you this trip, so my family and I will be anxiously reading about your wonderful adventures at Tenwek! Your past posts help me to see what he will be experiencing in the next 2 weeks! We are praying for your team, the patients and their families. Thanks, Jenny
